Summer 2010 ~ Glacier Nat'l Park

We took a couple days during our drive out West to explore another great National Park and see the beauty of God's creation. It was a fabulous stop on our journey!

Hungry Horse Dam & Recreation Area
Hungry Horse, Montana

We stayed in Hungry Horse, MT, taking time to go up the dam and see the wonders of harnessing water to create energy. Amazing!!!

We drove across the dam and then took time to walk across it.

It was HUGE and quite amazing to look at!

White Water Rafting!

We took an afternoon white water rafting trip on the middle fork of the Flathead River. That was a whole lot of fun, but due to being on the water, few pictures were taken (and I wasn't about to buy their pictures for the price they were asking...so the memories of the fun and beauty are in our heads).

We did get to wear some stellar outfits. With the river temperature at about 45 degrees, we were very thankful for the wetsuits and splash jackets...even if we did look funny.

Fire Tower Hike

Dennis, Elisabeth & Caleb hiked up to a fire tower in the recreation area.

It was a vigorous hike, but the beauty from the top was worth the pain!

Glacier National Park
Montana

On July 1st, we drove up into the park and spent the day seeing the beautiful scenery, hiking on some great trails, and freezing our feet off in the snow. The famous "Going to the Sun Road" had only opened a week before we got there. The trail we wanted to hike, the 11 mile "Highline Trail Hike" or "Garden Wall," wasn't open yet, due to the amount of snow in some places. They said they were blasting some areas with dynamite the day we were there, so it would be cleared and open for the July 4th weekend. We were bummed, but still had a fabulous time in the park.

We did hike to Avalanche Lake.
Gorgeous views along the way and at the lake!

Nathanael & Hannah found a cool tree stump to look through!

Going to the Sun Road & Logan's Pass

The Going to the Sun Road was VERY long, VERY curvy, & VERY slow!
They were doing construction in one long section, making the trip to Logan's Pass take at least an extra hour of time.

Extremely slow going, but beautiful views to see while we waited!

We saw a lot of mountain goats!
They were along the road as we drove up to the pass. I took this picture right out my window...even caught the little guy in the air.

There were also a bunch of them on the trail out to Hidden Lake.

We hiked out to Hidden Lake, but really it should have been called Hidden Trail when we were there. The entire trail was covered with snow. Let me tell you, hiking sandals and snow are NOT a good combination!
~~~
Dennis & the 3 younger kids were going to get one more hike in on the morning that we were to leave, however, it was raining when they got up. So instead, they drove to the other side of the park, stopping at the top to play in the falling...
SNOW!!!
On July 2nd!!
Even the driver was thrilled to see it snowing!
Glacier is a beautiful area & we would love to go back sometime!
Our God's creativity is so amazing & awesome!!!
