February Fun

February has been a fast month filled with lots of fun activities.

With the start of Rainy Season, we've seen many beautiful rainbows.

The High School had a Valentine's Banquet on Friday the 13th. The theme was "It Happened One Night". Before the banquet, the Senior class, all dressed up in their best clothes, came over to our house to get some pictures taken to use for their Graduation announcements.

Here is our Graduating Class for this year.
Lydia Patton, Mishaela Parker, Darlene Santos, Curtis Schulz, Anne Bayless, & Mateus Marques.

Most of the High Schoolers and High School staff attended this fun event.
The 9th & 10th grades were the event planners and entertainment for the evening.

Most of the kids attended with a "date" because they got a financial "break" to attend in two's. Here is Nathanael with his friend Rahel, one of our Swiss students.

Dennis and I paired up together too to get that break. :o)

The kids put together some really yummy fruit kabobs as part of the menu. Spaghetti & meat balls with garlic bread filled out the rest of the meal. Brownies with whipped topping (a rarity here) were our dessert.
It was a very fun night for all who attended.

The girls and I headed to the Hippy Fair one Sunday morning with some friends.

Our crew for the day was (l. to r.): Heather Felder, our new Kindergarten teacher for this semester; Kim Johnson, our 1st & 2nd grade teacher this year; Kim's daughter Karina; my two girls Elisabeth & Hannah; and Laura Polston, our student teacher from Cedarville College, here teaching in grades 5-8.

The Hippy Fair is a located at the largest park in downtown Belem. There are tons of artisans who come out to sell their wares. A person can buy all varieties of local craft items.

If you want a puppy, you can get one of those too; choosing from several different breeds.

Or if you'd rather get tattoos or body piercing done (in front of God and everyone), that's available too. The girls watched some gal get her belly button pierced and I think it is safe to say they will NEVER get one of those done. :o)

Many of the other vendors have nice items like jewelry made of indigenous seeds and materials; paintings; carved wooden items; Brasilian musical instruments; and MUCH more. It's an excellent place to find cool things made by local artist out of local materials, for very inexpensive prices.

Being rainy season, we went prepared for rain and it came...in torrents! Our whimpy umbrella worked like those old canvas tents...as long it didn't get touched, the rain stayed on the outside. Unfortunately, having it touch itself (when it is closed) worked against us too. Needless to say, we got quite wet on our adventure. Elisabeth & Hannah tried huddling by this vendor's booth to escape the rain. It worked for a short time, until the tarp took on too much water and came unclipped, dumping a bunch of water over them. In spite of the rain, we all had a great time at the Hippy Fair.
