We left California and started our journey East toward Memphis. We stopped for a day at the Grand Canyon. What an amazing place that was!
Gorgeous beauty in every direction.
We started a hike the evening we got to the park, but a storm rolled in. We got to see some pretty cool lightening strike inside the canyon, so we thought better of going any further. The next morning Dennis and the three oldest kids hiked to the 3 mile resthouse.
There is the 3 mile resthouse from a distance.
Happy Hikers!
After the hike...Dennis and the kids started their hike at 5:45am and were back at the top by 10:00am. It was a fast and fun 3 miles into the canyon and back out.
It was a true privilege to see this incredible display of God's handiwork.

We stayed in the Grand Canyon National Park that night and then headed out to continue our journey. We made a fast stop at the Petrified Forest National Park, which is right on Interstate 40.

We were on the end that had the Painted Desert. It reminded us of the Badlands of South Dakota, only the colors were a bit different.
Arizona, New Mexico, Texas (panhandle), Oklahoma, and Arkansas later, we finally arrived at my sister Kim's house just south of Memphis. We were quite tired of being in the van and glad to have a couple days off from driving.
